Note 1: The author’s note on page 11 has a postscript dated February 1973 summarising the revisions that were made to the text on the play’s return to the National Theatre. The text in this edition includes those revisions.

5. Theatre Script – 1

A duplicated typescript from c.1973. Bound in black card wrappers with three steel clips. Cover sheet (signed by Stoppard), [i] cast of characters, [ii] extensive notes by Stoppard on the staging of the play with reference to the National Theatre production which is the same text as in the first edition (pp. 13-15) but preceded by a 15 line introduction which does not appear in the published version. Pages 332mm x 202mm, printed on the recto only and numbered 1.1 to 1.38, 2.1 to 2.25 and Coda I to VI.

6. Theatre Script – 2

Royal National Theatre 21st February 2003. Bound in pale blue card wrappers with a steel clip. Pages 297mm x 210mm, [i] cover sheet, [i] cast of characters, 68 unnumbered leaves printed on recto only. The copy in the MW Collection was previously owned by one of the “jumpers” in the cast.
