Note 1: The MW collection includes the review copy of the poet Anthony Thwaite who taught Ian McEwan writing at the University of East Anglia and whose review of First Love, Last Rites in The Observer helped launch McEwan’s career. In 1990 McEwan inscribed the book, thanking Thwaite for that review.

Front: white with in large black text ‘FIRST | LOVE | LAST | RITES’ – the O of love being in blue, red and yellow; between the L and A of last in red ‘McEWAN’; a white sticker was affixed to the front with black text ‘40th | ANNIVERSARY | EDITION’.
